There really wasn’t much to see on the city tour and most of what was discussed was political. I took one of the cruise excursions which include a city tour and beach time. and definitely dont expect any special pricing deals. This is so commercialized and lost its authentic theme. When I saw a Pandora, I was disappointed. There is nothing "Mexican" about 90% of these shops. My wife shopped in several jewelry shops with no deals there either. I wanted a pair of boots, but they were the same price as what I could get at any boot store. This is especially true because 90% of the things I saw for sale you can get on Amazon. This is a big turnoff for me, and it makes me not want to purchase anything. Prices are not any better and sometimes higher than in the US at most of these places. Food, drinks, swimming, beach, and shopping are all within walking distance from the ship.ĬONS: Very commercialized shops with only a few authentic Mexican shops. PROS: Everything you need is right there at the port, and no need to go any further inland unless you have some special shore excursion. There was another ship there, so the market area was quite crowded and bustling with tourists. Most of the people were in the large pools that were plentiful and easily accessible. They do have a small beach, but the seaweed made it undesirable. The Costa Maya area is not developed so staying at the port is the best game in town. Tours are readily available if needed but there really is not much ofĪ need to leave the port area. The port is alive with shops, restaurants, entertainment, swimming and other activities. Some people with medical conditions either didn't attempt or turned back. The walk from the ship to the port entry is about a quarter mile, so be prepared for a healthy walk from the ship. On first glance, you will see this nice, welcoming port out in the middle of nowhere. After that we walked around a bit more and made our way back to the ship. We shared a nice sized cup with like 4 different flavors and it was pretty good. The vendors were just too much! Back in port we decided to get some Gelato at the cute little Gelato shop. Hubby bought 1 thing, we finished our drinks fast and went back to port. Immediately we had a vendor in our face every 30 seconds trying to sell us something. Then we were led to loungers and ordered 1 drink each, and told them no tab we will pay when we get them. They said okay we will do it for $20, so we both got our massages and paid them $25 each. I told them we will just walk down to Krazy lobster because they do $20 for an hour long massage and I pulled up a screenshot I took from their page to prove it. We asked about massages and they told us $25 for 30 minutes or $45 for an hour. They pointed out Krazy Lobster and started walking us to loungers. Anyway where we ended up, they tried to tell us was also owned by the owners of Krazy Lobster. The driver was not in the van when they said they only had $20 and didn't know how they'd get back. However, the cab driver chose to listen to the 3 younger passengers who they added to the cab and take us to some place next door to it so beware of that. We found the taxi area and asked to go to Krazy Lobster because we heard about the $20 massages. There are of course a lot of shops and stands full of merchandise. The pool is huge and has a swim up bar, but we didn't get in. The flamingos are nice to see, as well as the natives pole routine. The port area alone had so much going on. This was our 1st time getting off the ship in Costa Maya.
